Most of the couples who write to me about coordination have not booked everyone yet. They have the venue and the date, maybe the photographer, and a list of everything else. And almost all of them ask the same thing in the second line: is it too early?
It is the right time, and here is why.
Coordination is booked by the date, not by the stage. The planner you want on your day has one wedding a Saturday, so the thing you are securing in November is not help in November, it is the person on the floor next July. That is also why the price does not change with how early you book; you are not paying for months, you are paying for a day that is yours and nobody else’s.
What changes, when you book early, is how the months in between feel. Within a week of the retainer we sit down and go through what is booked and what is not, and you leave with the wedding on one page: every decision still open, with its date, the order to book the rest in, and three names for each vendor you still need, from people I would put in a room. From then on, every contract comes to me before you sign it, and every question comes to me whenever it comes to you.
You still choose the florist. You still taste the cake. The page carries the rest.
Eight weeks out, the whole plan becomes ours to run, and on the day you are a guest at your own wedding. If somewhere in those months you decide you would rather we booked the rest with you, that is a different package, and we simply move you to it.
So the question is not whether it is too early. It is what you would like us to carry. Tell us where you are.
