Planning
A hall comes with tables, chairs, washrooms, power, parking and a kitchen. A backyard comes with grass. Every one of those is now a rental, a delivery and a pickup, and each one needs a time slot on the day. Start with the guest count, then the tent, then everything the tent has to hold.
Coordination
Deliveries start arriving at your parents’ house at seven in the morning. Someone has to be there who is not getting dressed. The neighbours need a note, the caterer needs a plan for a kitchen that is not a kitchen, and the rain plan gets decided the week before, never the morning of.
Styling
Grass, gravel and a slope change what you can wear. Heels sink, long hems pick up the lawn, and the light at four in the afternoon is a different light from seven. Plan the outfits for the ground you are standing on and the hour you are standing on it.
